Alvin est un jeune garçon d'une dizaine d'années qui a échappé de justesse à la mort dans les faubourgs de Wyzima, à la nuit tombante, alors qu'il rentrait avec sa mère et qu'une horde de barghests les aient attaqués, le rendant orphelin. Le choc phychologique a été si fort qu'il a commencé à prédire l'avenir et prononcé la prophétie d'Ithilinne. Alvin possède des pouvoirs magiques qu'il ne peut contrôler, il parvient à s'imprégner des âmes d'autres vivants qui parlent par sa bouche.
Les enfants disposant de pouvoirs tels ceux d'Alvin sont appelés des "Sources" et deviennent rapidement l'objet des spéculations des magiciens, du bon comme du malin, désireux de les avoir comme apprentis et d'en dominer les talents.
Alvin semble être une source particulièrement puissante pour son âge. Quelqu'un va devoir veiller sur lui pour qu'il ne tombe pas sous l'emprise de quelques forces obscures, déjà en chemin, à sa recherche.

Alvin vivait avec Abigail jusqu'à ce que la sorcière le confie au révérend. Le prêtre a remis l'orphelin aux bandits de la Salamandre, qui demandent aux habitants des faubourgs de leur amener des enfants. J'ai tué les bandits et sauvé Alvin. si Geralt confit Alvin aux soins de Triss : J'ai revu Alvin, mais cette fois dans la Vieille Wyzima. Triss et Shani voulaient toutes deux s'occuper du garçon. En tout cas : Après sa disparition, Alvin a été retrouvé dans le village d'Eaux-Troubles et recueilli par un jeune couple. Il possède toujours des pouvoirs incontrôlables, mais l'amulette de Triss que je lui ai remise devrait les neutraliser. Le garçon semble s'être pris d'amitié pour moi. Pendant mon séjour à Eaux-Troubles, il m'a suivi partout, me posant sans cesse une multitude de questions. Mes réponses l'ont impressionné. Je pense qu'Alvin est capable de traverser l'espace et le temps, mais il est incapable de contrôler ce pouvoir, qui refait surface quand il est tendu. Alvin a été pris en otage par les elfes quand les unités de l'Ordre sont arrivées à Eaux-Troubles. Lors du combat qui a suivi, la frayeur du garçon était telle qu'il est parvenu à s'enfuir en faisant appel à ses extraordinaires talents. J'espère que nos chemins se croiseront à nouveau. |
[modifier] Spéculations sur Alvin
Beaucoup des fans du jeu croient qu'Alvin est en fait le Grand Maître de l'Ordre, Jacques d'Aldersberg. When the fight between the elves under Toruviel and the Ordre de la Rose-Ardente erupts in full force in Eaux-Troubles, Alvin teleports himself away because he is frightened by an elven warrior. Alvin's ability to teleport himself through time and space stems from the fact that he is a Source. It is widely theorized that he flees to the past, perhaps back to where he was raised and, ultimately incorporated what he had learned with Geralt, accepting his perceived fate and became the Grand Maître.
Clues that speak to this hypothesis include the dimeritium pendant Alvin wears. Alvin, the boy has one as does the Grand Master; only difference is that Aldersberg's amulet shows years of wear. Another hint lies in the mention that Alvin's favourite game is "kill the elf" where he always plays the Grand Master and wins. Also, when Jacques' group comes to the aid of the refugees in the Swamp Cemetery (Chapitre V), Jacques tells Geralt that he was returning a favour by saving the witcher's life, possibly referring to Geralt rescuing Alvin from kidnappers in Chapitre s I et III, killing the Devourer who attacks Alvin in Chapitre IV or slaughtering the barghests hunting Alvin at the beginning of Chapitre I] In the same conversation, Jacques is suspiciously quick to accuse Geralt of preachiness -- not a common trait of Geralt's, but one he must show when acting as a father-figure to Alvin. In the epilogue, a vision if Alvin appears just before the final battle with Jaques, and his shadow on the cliff-face is that of a grown man in armor.
Some feel that a counter-argument to this hypothesis is that townspeople in Chapitres II et III already speak of Jacques de Aldersberg despite the fact that Alvin is in the care of Geralt and either Triss or Shani at that time and place, suggesting that they are two different people. Others feel that the two co-existing does not violate any time-travelling principles.
In the scene where Alvin tells Geralt that he wants to be a sorceleur, the player can answer "Don't become a witcher, become a knight" to which Alvin replies "I will be a Witcher-Knight!" suggesting a knight who hunts monsters, as the Ordre de la Rose-Ardente does. Furthermore, during a dialogue with Siegfried, Geralt learns that even a Witcher can become a member of the Order.
At the end of the game, if the Roi de la Chasse Sauvage is allowed to take Jacques d'Aldersberg's soul, he tells Geralt that he knew this soul under another name as well, possibly pointing to Alvin, although his name is not explicitly uttered. Also, all of the lessons given to Alvin by Geralt appear to have had a major influence on the Aldersberg's expressed views during the endgame speeches.
Meeting Dandelion after the final confrontation, Geralt brings this question up himself. The two conclude that they will never know for sure.
These fan speculations have neither been confirmed nor denied by the developers.
